Applications for a number of provisional and migration visas can be made at
VFS. These applications will be assessed and decided at the Australian High
Commission Dhaka. (A provisional visa - such as the Prospective Marriage and
Spouse (Provisional) visa - is granted subject to conditions that can be met
when the applicant and sponsor are in Australia.)
CHILD
The information on this page is specific to applicants in Bangladesh.
Who should apply?
Child (Subclass 101)
This visa is for a person outside Australia seeking a permanent visa on the
basis of being the dependent child of an Australian citizen, Australian
permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
Adoption (Subclass 102)
This visa is for a person seeking a permanent visa on the basis of being adopted
(or who has already been adopted) by an Australian resident who meets certain
legislative criteria. In very broad terms, this visa provides for the migration
of a child who is either adopted (or to be adopted) with the involvement of an
Australian State/Territory adoption authority or adopted privately by an
Australian resident(s) who has been living overseas for more than 12 months.
The decision maker must be satisfied that the adoptive parent(s) have not
contrived their absence in order to circumvent State/Territory adoption
procedures.
Please note that, in general, adoptions in Bangladesh have not been accepted as
the equivalent of an adoption in Australia as they do not provide for the legal
and permanent severing of the relationship between natural parents and the
child.
Orphan Relative (Subclass 117)
This visa is for a person seeking a permanent visa on the basis of being an
"orphan relative", as defined by the Migration Regulations 1994.
