 Who should apply?

This visa is designed to allow patients to travel to Australia for medical treatment or medical consultations.

You should apply for this visa if you are either:

planning any medical treatment or consultations in Australia except surrogate motherhood
travelling to Australia to donate an organ
accompanying or providing support to the person needing treatment.

Which visa should you apply for?

If you intend to travel to Australia for medical treatment or medical consultations for a period of up to three months, you should apply for a Medical Treatment Short Stay visa (Subclass 675).

If you intend to travel to Australia for medical treatment or medical consultations for a period of between three and twelve months, you should apply for a Medical Treatment Long Stay visa (Subclass 685).

What does this visa let you do?

If you are granted this visa you can:

visit Australia for a period of up to 3 months
study for up to three months.

Visas may be granted for a single entry or multiple entries to Australia.

VISA APPLICATION
PROCESS


Step 1
Select a visa subclass which is appropriate for the purpose of your travel to Australia and download the relevant visa application form.

Please note:  You can also obtain a visa application form at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC).

Step 2
Your visa application may require supporting documentation For a list of supporting documentation required for your visa; see the checklist under the relevant visa category. Gather together required supporting documentation for your application.

To avoid possible delays, you should include all relevant information and additional documentation in support of your application at the time of lodgment (see the checklist under the relevant visa category)

Step 3
Walk in to AVAC to lodge your application and submit your biometrics.


Step 4
Lodge your visa application and submit your biometric data at an AVAC. The Australian Visa Office may contact you to request additional information.


Step 5
Important note for visa applicants:

To make a valid application, applicants must lodge a complete and signed application form for the appropriate visa class, pay the appropriate visa application charge and provide their biometrics. Application forms for persons aged under 18 years must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

All supporting documents and information should be submitted together with the application. Any documents that are not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation.

To avoid possible delays, you should include all relevant information and additional documentation in support of your application at the time of lodgment (documents required see the checklist available under the relevant visa category).

If you do not provide all the specified documentation at the time you lodge your application a decision may be made on the basis of the available information. Australian migration legislation permits a decision to be taken at any time after the application has been lodged.

You may be charged a courier cost for any additional documents which you subsequently submit to the Australian Visa Apllication Centre.

Step 6
Apply early and travel on time
