Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462)
The Work and Holiday visa is for tertiary educated people aged 18 to 30 who are interested in a working holiday of up to 12 months in Australia. This visa allows you to supplement the cost of your holiday through periods of temporary or casual employment.

You must not make arrangements to travel to Australia until you are advised that your visa has been granted.

Eligibility
You may be eligible for a Work and Holiday visa if you:
are aged 18 to 30 years (inclusive) on the date you apply
hold a passport from an eligible country
have a letter of support from your government
have not previously held a Working Holiday (417) or Work and Holiday (462) visa.

Government approval
You must provide the department with a letter of government support for your application to apply for a Work and Holiday visa. This letter must be the original letter of approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Your details will be verified against the original list provided by the Ministry.
Note: The letter of support does not guarantee a place in the Work and Holiday program.

Education requirements 

You must hold tertiary qualifications or have successfully completed at least two (2) years of undergraduate university study.

English language requirements

You must provide documentary evidence of your English level when you lodge your visa application, details of which are on the Work and Holiday checklist.

Evidence of funds
You must provide a certified copy of a bank statement showing you have access to appropriate funds, generally at least AUD$5,000 to support the initial stage of your holiday. This amount will vary depending on your proposed length of stay and the extent of your travel.

You must also provide evidence of a return or onward ticket or the funds for a fare to leave Australia.

Health Requirements
You will need to undergo a chest x-ray and, depending on your personal circumstances, you may also need to undertake additional medical examinations.

Character Requirements
All applicants must meet character requirements.

Work and Holiday Visa Charges
The Visa Application Charge must accompany your application and is generally not refunded if the application is unsuccessful.

PROCESS


Step 1
Select a visa subclass which is appropriate for the purpose of your travel to Australia and download the relevant visa application form.

Please note:  You can also obtain a visa application form at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC).

Step 2
Your visa application may require supporting documentation For a list of supporting documentation required for your visa, see the checklist under the relevant visa category. Gather together required supporting documentation for your application.

To avoid possible delays, you should include all relevant information and additional documentation in support of your application at the time of lodgment (see the checklist under the relevant visa category)

Step 3
Walk in to AVAC to lodge your application and submit your biometrics.


Step 4
Lodge your visa application and submit your biometric data at an AVAC. The Australian Visa Office may contact you to request additional information.
